What’s in That Audition Bag!?

10 Things you're going to want to bring to your audition

Preparedness is one of my top priorities when it comes to my career. I’m full of the what-if’s, which is a blessing and a curse.

Today I’m talking about what I bring to an audition to be absolutely, 100% ready for whatever anyone throws at me. There are affiliate links in this post! Buy whatever you want! It’ll help us continue to provide new articles every week!

You need:

1.) A great bag.

This one may be a little repetitive, but if you don’t have a bag that fits the audition lifestyle, you’re going to be carrying things in your hands all around LA and wherever else. I don’t know about you, but in today’s climate I like to have both hands free. I feel super vulnerable whenever my hands are full.

It needs enough room for all the things I’m going to mention below; a binder, a folder, makeup, yada yada. Basically, backpack status.

Left: Junlion Unisex Business Laptop Backpack College Student School Bag Travel Rucksack Daypack with USB Charging Port Green. It has a charging port! How cool is that??

Right: Women Purses and Handbags Tote Shoulder Bag Top Handle Satchel Bags for Ladies. Just big enough for a binder laid sideways, and super classy.

2.) My audition book/audition folder.

Depending on the media you’re auditioning for, you’re going to need one or both of these. For musical theater, a binder full of sheet music and a headshot/resume. For TV/Film, a folder to put in your sides and a headshot/resume.

You don’t want any of your papers looking crinkled, stained, or ripped. It doesn’t look too professional, and we all know first impressions are important.

Convenient Amazon choices:

Left: Business Source 1-Inch Round Ring View Binder – White (09953)

Right: 6 Pack Multicolor Plastic Two Pocket Folders, Plastic Folders with 2 Pockets and Business Card Slot, 2 Pocket Plastic folders for School, Home, and Work, 6 Pack Plastic folders

3.) Some pencils, pens, erasers, and highlighters.

If you need to mark your sheet music, make notes on your sides, or highlight your lines, you can’t really do that without some of these.

4.) Makeup.

If you start sweating and the makeup comes off, you can just re-do it! No biggie!

5.) Ear buds!

There’s nothing more awkward than trying to listen to your audition song on your phone but at the same time trying not to annoy everyone else in the waiting room.

6.) A little nail kit.

I don’t know about you, but the only time I seem to break a nail is at an event or audition. Keep a nail kit in your bag, and at least the nail won’t keep catching on your nice audition clothes.

7.) Something to do.

Chances are, you’re going to go to multiple auditions where you’re just waiting.

For.

Hours.

Bring something to do! A book (A personal favorite of mine is You Are a Bad***; I’ve written a whole article on it!), a magazine, some yarn and a crochet hook?

8.) Painkillers!

You never know when a headache is going to pop up.

9.) Water and snacks.

Again, you might be there for a while. There’s nothing worse than being starving for an audition or having a serious case of nervous dry-mouth.

10.) Poo-Pourri Before-You-Go Toilet Spray!!

This stuff saves my life time and time again! I’m a big fan. I highly recommend you get this itty-bitty 10 ml bottle and put it in your audition bag.

Po-Pourri: You have to have this in your audition bag!
