The Most Informative Acting Podcast Out There! – My Favs From Inside Acting

Hey again guys! It’s Jessica Bell here. This week I’ll be writing about my newest suggestion to anyone who acts and wants to take their career to the next level – the Inside Acting Podcast. Boy are you in for a treat.

Before we get started, don’t forget to email subscribe below, because you never know what you’ll learn from our weekly articles!

It started with a 5 and a half hour drive.

One of my best friends goes to school in Davis, California, and I live a ways from there. Exactly 5 and a half hours by car. She’d been going to school there for 3 and a half years and I had never seen the place, so a party she’s hosting rolls around and I decide – That’s it. I’m visiting once and for all! I take 3 friends up with me, and we have a blast on our mini road trip!

But soon I’m overcome with travel fear – they can’t come back with me the next day. So I’d have to make that 5 and a half hour drive alone. I can barely stay awake for a 30 minute drive!

So someone at the party suggests listening to podcasts on the way home. They mention murder mystery podcasts, but I guess that’s not really my deal. I think – Alright, how can I use this time to learn about my craft? How can I make this 5 and a half hours feel educational and not feel like a waste of time?

I Google “best acting podcasts” and find this gem on Backstage. A list of the 26 best podcasts for actors! Perfect! Well, needless to say, I chose Inside Acting because of the description, “Trevor Algatt and AJ Meijer bring you tips from casting directors, agents, producers, writers, actors, and filmmakers to help you market yourself better, create your own work, and book more jobs. If that doesn’t sound like a ‘me’ podcast, I don’t know what does.

So it’s the morning after the party and I’m exhausted but shoving coffee and protein bars in my face. (Side note: I forgot my entire overnight bag, so I ended up having to put my contacts in paper shot glasses while I slept and thanked to lord that I didn’t have to take any medications anymore.) I’m dreading this drive, but a little excited to see what all the hype around podcasts is about. I started with Episode 262: Michael Donovan (Part 1).

I was hooked. Not only did it get me super pumped during my long drive home, but I still wanted to keep listening when I finally pulled into my driveway. So much information and so much good stuff!

So, without much further ado, here are my favorite Inside Acting episodes from Episode 262 to where I’m at now!

1.) Episode 270: Chelsey Crisp (Part 1) & Episode 271: Chelsey Crisp (Part 2)

These were the 3rd and 4th episodes from Inside Acting that I had listened to and they got me so excited to get really specific about my goals. She talks about having her specific goals in mind and then crushing them, so I figured I should do the same! Really inspiring stuff. If you’re in need of some motivation, this is the episode that did it for me.

2.) Episode 280: Michelle Jubilee Gonzalez (Part 1) & Episode 281: Michelle Jubilee Gonzalez (Part 2)

Michelle Jubilee Gonzalez is so inspirational in these episodes. She really gets you excited to create and maintain your work ethic. And, she mentions my favorite book: You Are a Bad***!! Magic.

3.) Episode 287: Workshop Roundtable (Part 1) & Episode 288: Workshop Roundtable (Part 2)

Before these episodes, I thought I had an idea of the workshop scandal that happened way back in 2017-ish. Well, turns out I had no actual clue, because in Episode 287 & 288, casting directors Allen Hooper, Caroline Liem, and Jane Jenkins go into detail about what happened, where, when, with whom, and to whom. Lots of details that put some things in perspective.

4.) Episode 294: Britt Harris and Molly Parker (Part 1) & Episode 295: Britt Harris and Molly Parker (Part 2)

These awesome women talk about “making 7 different films, with 7 different filmmakers, in 7 different countries, in 7 months.” If that doesn’t inspire you to make your own stuff, I don’t know what will. The amount of determination these 2 episodes gave me to start writing is unparalleled. I’m actually working on multiple scripts right now!! What?!
