I’ve been having a lot of epiphanies lately. And when I say a lot, I mean a lot. And in addition to the epiphanies, opportunities and learning experiences and growth and contrast (that ultimately lead me to more growth).

I’ve been meditating, listening to Abraham Hicks on YouTube, taking Improv classes for the first time in my life, stretching myself and my mind in more ways than I ever thought possible, journaling, adventuring, being spontaneous… It’s been a journey these past couple months.

I want to tell you a story about manifestation.

Not too long ago, I realized that the depressed girl I thought I always played in my characters was dead. She’s gone. I’m not that person anymore and I don’t have fun playing those characters. Keep in mind, when I say I “realized,” it was really more of an inkling. I didn’t know it for sure, but the thought crossed my subconscious mind enough to make a whisper of an idea.

I started actively searching for roles that were bubbly and happy and fun – which were usually more supporting characters than leads, but I didn’t mind. Supporting is fun! I was watching comedies and musical movies and Marilyn Monroe – if I were to make the perfect movie that I would star in, it would look like a Marilyn Monroe movie with the beautiful outfits and the bubbly sexy personality and the romance and comedy and some singing. That’s what I wrote down in my journal. I wasn’t a psycho about it, I just let myself see a fun situation in my mind and have it – in my mind.

So I continue doing my selftapes and scene study classes and singing lessons over the following weeks, when I get an email from my scene study teacher about a movie she thought I was right for. The deadline was in a month, so I didn’t put it up right away. But then I get an email from my agent about the same movie – but this selftape is due in a week. So I decide to get to work.

I start reading the sides, and they seem… familiar. Oh. This character is Marilyn Monroe. I just knew she had to be Marilyn Monroe. So I did my selftape as Marilyn Monroe and sent it in.

Just a little while later, I get a callback. And then another callback. And then all of a sudden I’m in the parking lot of a Spirit Halloween with my brother’s girlfriend in the passenger seat when I check my phone only to realize I’ve missed a call from my agent. Yeah – that call. I’ve got the part.

So they send me the script and I read it all the way through a couple times before the table read – this character is rich, fashionable, bubbly, sexy, ridiculous, a little spoiled, a hopeless romantic, and totally Marilyn. It’s everything I asked for – minus the singing. I write in my journal how uncanny and manifestational this all is.

So we film the whole thing in 13 days and I have a blast, right? Total dream gig. Working alongside incredibly friendly and talented people, and doing work that I’m totally stoked about. And sooner than I’m ready for, we’re finished shooting the baby and she’s ready to start walking.

This was about 5-6 months ago. I just got an email last week from one of our directors that he’s making a movie musical and he wants me to sing the demos for it.

All my boxes, checked. Manifestation, manifested.

This is all to say that I had an idea that felt good to think about and I just let it be. I journaled about it, had a good time doing it, and because I just let it be an idea without forcing it to happen, it happened!
